The Study of Low Frequency Noise Control Criteria and Measures

Absrtact
This study measured the noise from several construction sites and tried to establish the criteria of the low frequency noise for construction sites. The noise from construction sites has the following characteristics: (1) While comparing with the noise of the factory, it is relatively short while influencing; (2) There are more striking type noises, and the volume is great; (3) It is more difficult to implement noise abatement because usually the sites are open; (4) The machines are different while different stages of constructing, the noise characteristics are different. It needs to consider the above-mentioned characteristic while stipulating criteria. For consistency, the measurement methods need to be the same with current factories and business places low frequency noise standards. As for the limit, in 2005 and 2006, forty construction sites noise were measured. While the windows were closed, the low frequency (20-200Hz) equivalent noise for two minutes, if it is 49 decibels, nearly 28% will go beyond the standard. Although the draft criteria was proposed in this study, we suggested that more measurement need to be implement because forty samples were too few to support the results. Besides standard draft, this study has been finished fives cases for noise complaint. The noise comes from factory , parking tower, air-blower motor enharmonic etc. Among them some can be being improved after suggestion proposing, but some measurement results were not over the criteria. It was possible that the complainant was more sensitive to the noise. This kind of cases must strengthen with relation and communication between the two parties. A draft booklet for low frequency noise control was edited, it will offer to the people and manufacturer who are interested in such topic. This study also implemented three meeting for consultation meeting and a specialist lecture.
